Let’s Talk About Ageing

  • The quest for eternal youth can be traced all the way back to Roman, Norse, and Greek mythology.
  • Modern skincare methods won’t give you eternal youth.
  • Your skin and the way you look can reflect how much you take care of it and treat it.
  • Everything on your skin is a reflection of moments, experiences, birthdays, breakups, encounters…in life and makes you who you are.

The Quest for Eternal Youth – A Holy Grail

If I was to ask you if you would like to look 21 again, or maybe if you are 21, to stay 21 for the rest of your life, what would be your answer? Think carefully before you respond.

The quest for eternal youth has always been a holy grail. It can be found in Roman, Norse and in Greek mythology where Eos asks Zeus to give Tithonus eternal life, which the God grants, but she forgets to also ask for eternal youth, so her husband continues to age and grow withered.

Alchemists across the ages have sought to formulate the elixir of life, seeking a potion that will grant the drinker eternal life and eternal youth.

In literature Mark Twain famously noted that ‘Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of 80 and gradually approach 18’

Homer referred to old age as ‘loathsome’, Shakespeare who considered it to be a ‘hideous Winter’’, and in Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde created a character who preserved his youth by only ageing in a painting, to hideous extreme.

Fast forward to today and despite what the medical and beauty industries would like us to believe there is no pill or potion, no treatment or procedure that is capable of giving us eternal youth.

Loving is Caring

Still thinking of your answer?  Then maybe consider why there are those people who are naturally more attractive, even though arguably you could find others with a perhaps better-looking physique, considering “better looking” by modern standards (which are usually related to qualities of youth). I can tell you that most of those people, if you bothered to ask, are happy in their own skin.

I believe in the power of transformation through love. When you know you look beautiful, you radiate confidence, which makes you happy. That energy you emit makes you the prettiest in the room.

Loving is caring. Your skin and the way you look can reflect how you treat it, and much of how it behaves is very much a product of how much you care for it and how well (or not) you treat it.

Be Happy with You

Next time you are in front of the mirror, loathing your look and wishing you had no breakouts, no sunspots, no wrinkles, think that they are yours, and that is reason enough to live happily with them. Each one of those wrinkles and fine lines, blemishes, spots, are just a reflection of moments, experiences, birthdays, breakups, encounters… life. Think of them as a lovely reminder of those times that made you who you are. Proper and routine skincare will make them visible to you, but the world around you will see an interesting and self-assured person that exudes confidence and happiness. The prettiest in the room.

If you happened to be surrounded by people in their 40s and above, I dare you to ask the question: Would you like to be 21 again? I did, and their quick response of “no way” prompted me to write this piece. The majority of us will not trade our wisdom, experience, self-confidence and even those pesky wrinkles for the mostly distressful 20s… no way!
